  • Anglesea to Aireys Inlet & Beyond. A photographic tour by old postcards.

    $27.00
  • In the early 19th century sealers and whalers frequented this area and a whaling station was built in the bay which became known as Apollo Bay after a ship ‘Apollo’ that took shelter there in 1845. This name was not formally recognised until 1898, replacing the Krambruk. The first settlers were timber cutters but after clearing the land reverted to farming. Today the area is a popular tourist destination. In this book (number five in the postcard series), we take you on a journey to see the many waterfalls and ferns that abound in this district and along back roads to the scenic hills beyond. We see the early township when tourists were few and far between and early cars dot the streets. The steamer Casino brought cargo and tourists many of whom stayed for a week or so. Many hotels and guest houses sprung up to cater for them. Others came by road via Wye River, along the newly built Great Ocean Road, at a time when conditions were rather primitive compared with today’s modern standards. Readers will enjoy this nostalgic photographic journey through the medium of old postcards.
